The virtues of Ramadaan

 Source: https://islamqa.info/en/answers/13480/the-virtues-of-ramadaan

Question

What is RAMADAN ?

Answer

Praise be to Allah.

Ramadaan is one of the twelve Arabic months. It is a month which is venerated in the Islamic religion, and it is distinguished from the other months by a number of characteristics and virtues, including the following:

1 – Allaah has made fasting this month the fourth pillar of Islam, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):

“The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’aan, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Sawm (fasts) that month…”

[al-Baqarah 2:185]

and it was narrated in al-Saheehayn (al-Bukhaari, 8; Muslim, 16) from the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Islam is built on five (pillars): the testimony that there is no god except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah; establishing prayer; paying zakaah; fasting Ramadaan; and Hajj to the House (the Ka’bah).”

2 – Allaah revealed the Qur’aan in this month, as He says in the verse quoted above (interpretation of the meaning):

“The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’aan, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong)…”

[al-Baqarah 2:185]

And Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily, We have sent it (this Qur’aan) down in the Night of Al-Qadr (Decree).”

[al-Qadr 97:1]

3 – Allaah has made Laylat al-Qadr in this month, which is better than a thousand months, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily, We have sent it (this Qur’aan) down in the Night of Al-Qadr (Decree).

And what will make you know what the Night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is?

The Night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allaah in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, i.e. 83 years and 4 months).

Therein descend the angels and the Rooh [Jibreel (Gabriel)] by Allaah’s Permission with all Decrees,

(All that night), there is peace (and goodness from Allaah to His believing slaves) until the appearance of dawn”

[al-Qadar 97:1-5]

“We sent it (this Qur’aan) down on a blessed night [(i.e. the Night of Al-Qadr) in the month of Ramadan — the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]”

[al-Dukhaan 44:3]

Allaah has blessed Ramadaan with Laylat al-Qadr. Explaining the great status of this blessed night, Soorat al-Qadr was revealed, and there are many ahaadeeth which also speak of that, such as the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There has come to you Ramadaan, a blessed month which Allaah has enjoined you to fast, during which the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and the rebellious devils are chained up. In it there is a night which is better than a thousand months, and whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived.”

Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 2106; Ahmad, 8769. classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 999.

And Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever spends Laylat al-Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, will be forgiven his previous sins.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1910; Muslim, 760.

4 – Allaah has made fasting Ramadaan and spending its nights in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward a means of forgiveness of sins, as was proven in al-Saheehayn (al-Bukhaari, 2014; Muslim, 760) from the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah according to which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever fasts Ramadaan out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” And al-Bukhaari (2008) and Muslim (174) also narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever spends the nights of Ramadaan in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.”

The Muslims are unanimously agreed that it is Sunnah to pray qiyaam at night in Ramadaan. Al-Nawawi said that what is meant by praying qiyaam in Ramadaan is to pray Taraweeh, i.e., one achieves what is meant by qiyaam by praying Taraaweeh.

5 – In this month, Allaah opens the gates of Paradise and closes the gates of Hell, and chains up the devils, as is stated in al-Saheehayn (al-Bukhaari, 1898; Muslim, 1079), from the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah who said that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When Ramadaan comes, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained up.”

6 – Every night Allaah has people whom He redeems from the Fire. Imam Ahmad (5/256) narrated from the hadeeth of Abu Umaamah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “At every breaking of the fast, Allaah has people whom He redeems.” Al-Mundhiri said: there is nothing wrong with its isnaad; and it was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 987.

Al-Bazzaar (Kashf 962) narrated that Abu Sa’eed said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah has people whom He redeems every day and night – i.e., in Ramadaan – and every Muslim every day and night has a prayer that is answered.”

7 – Fasting Ramadaan is a means of expiation for the sins committed since the previous Ramadaan, so long as one avoids major sins. It was proven in Saheeh Muslim (233) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The five daily prayers, from one Jumu’ah to the next and from one Ramadaan to the next are expiation for (sins committed) in between, so long as you avoid major sins.”

8 – Fasting in Ramadaan is equivalent to fasting ten months, as is indicated by the hadeeth in Saheeh Muslim (1164) narrated from Abu Ayyoob al-Ansaari: “Whoever fasts Ramadaan then follows it with six days of Shawwaal, it will be like fasting for a lifetime.” Ahmad (21906) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever fasts Ramadaan, a month is like ten months, and fasting six days after al-Fitr will complete the year.”

9 – Whoever prays qiyaam in Ramadaan with the imam until he finishes, it will be recorded for him that he spent the whole night in prayer, because of the report narrated by Abu Dawood (1370) and others from the hadeeth of Abu Dharr (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever prays qiyaam with the imam until he finishes, it will be recorded for him that he spent the whole night in prayer.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Salaat al-Taraaweeh, p. 15

10 – ‘Umrah in Ramadaan is equivalent to Hajj. Al-Bukhaari (1782) and Muslim (1256) narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to a woman among the Ansaar, “What kept you from doing Hajj with us?” She said, “We only had two camels that we used for bringing water.” So her husband and son had gone for Hajj on one camel, and he left the other for them to use for bringing water.” He said, “When Ramadaan comes, go for ‘Umrah, for ‘Umrah in Ramadaan is equivalent to Hajj.” According to a report narrated by Muslim, “… is equivalent to doing Hajj with me.”

11 – It is Sunnah to observe i’tikaaf (retreat for the purpose of worship) in Ramadaan, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) always did that, as it was narrated in the hadeeth of ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to spend the last ten days of Ramadaan in i’tikaaf until he passed away, then his wives observed i’tikaaf after him.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1922; Muslim, 1172.

12 – It is mustahabb in the sense of being strongly recommended in Ramadaan to study the Qur’aan together and to read it a great deal. You may study the Qur’aan together by reciting it to someone else and by having someone else recite it to you. The evidence that this is mustahabb is the fact that Jibreel used to meet the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) every night in Ramadaan and study the Qur’aan with him. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6; Muslim, 2308.

Reading Qur’aaan is mustahabb in general, but more so in Ramadaan

13 – It is mustahabb in Ramadaan to offer iftaar to those who are fasting, because of the hadeeth of Zayd ibn Khaalid al-Juhani (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever gives iftaar to one who is fasting will have a reward like his, without that detracting from the fasting person’s reward in the slightest.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 807; Ibn Maajah, 1746; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 647. see question no: ( 12598 )

‘Before Ramadan’ Reminder 2a

Thursday 17th March 2022 (at Maghrib) will mark the night of 15th Sha’ban, also referred to as Laylat al-Bara’ah, Laylat an-Nisf min Sha’ban, and Shab-e-Barat.”

“The importance of the 15th night of Sha’ban is a subject of debate among Muslims. Some celebrate the night with special prayers and fast the following day, while others say that this practice is not from the Sunnah.”

“The reality is that scholars consider the hadiths about 15th Sha’ban as being sound (Sahih), good (Hassan) and weak (Dha’if). However, due to the fact that there are numerous hadith, and the weakness of many of the hadith is not severe, the virtue of this night is accepted as authentic by (some) scholars.

“Ibn Taymiyyah (r) says, ‘So many ahadith and reports exist regarding the excellence of the 15th night of Sha’ban that one is compelled to accept that this night does possess some virtue’. This is the general consensus of scholars regarding this night.”

Source: https://muslimhands.org.uk/latest/2019/04/the-importance-of-15th-shaban-night

(Note: Some ahadeeth mentioned in this webpage above are deemed unauthentic by some scholars. Allah knows best)

Examples of these questionable ahadeeth from the website above.  Some scholars find these ahadeeth authentic. Others say some of them or most of them are weak or unauthentic or fabricated:

Questionable Hadeeth 1

1. The Prophet (saw) said, ′Allah gazes at His creation on the fifteenth night of Sha’ban and then forgives all His slaves except for two types of people: those who attribute partners to Allah and those who have rancour for their fellow Muslims’. [Ahmad]

.

Our notes:

Sheikh Al Albani generally said that this Hadeeth is Hasan or Saheeh. But Sheikh Ibn Baz and some scholars say that it is weak. See lecture clip by Sheikh Assim al hakeem below, in 'Before Ramadan' Reminder 2d.

.

Evidence that the Hadeeth above is Saheeh or Hasan:

.

Evidence that the hadeeth is weak:
Sheikh Assim quotes Sheikh ibn Baz (r):

.

Questionable Hadeeth 2

2. Aishah (ra) also narrated that the Prophet (saw) once remained in Sajdah for so long during this night that she became scared, and touched his foot to make sure he was still alive. He (saw) moved his foot and she heard him reciting the following du’a:

.

Our notes:
First note
The above comment, under the du'aa image, is the website's comment, not ours. The duáa, that they recommend to be recited on the 15th of Sha'baan above, has NO authentic evidence that it has to be recited on the 15th of Sha’ban. The du'aa can be recited every night of the year, if one wants to.
Second note

The number 2 Hadeeth above was slightly misquoted and misleading. It did NOT happen on the 15th of Sha’ban. See actual hadeeth in the image below, in shaa Allah.
Evidence: https://sunnah.com/malik/15/33

.

Questionable Hadeeth 3

3. The Prophet (saw) also said to Aishah (ra), ′Allah descends on the night of the middle of Sha’ban to the lowest heaven, and He forgives more than the numbers of hairs on the sheep of Banu Kalb (an Arab tribe renowned for their great flocks of sheep)’. [Ibn Majah and others]

.

Our notes:
The number 3 hadeeth above is da'eef (weak).

.

See supporting evidence here:

.

Questionable Hadeeth 4

4. Finally, the Prophet (saw) said that on this night, from sunset until dawn, Allah asks His servants, ′Is there anyone seeking forgiveness from Me so that I may forgive him? Is there anyone seeking provision from Me so I may provide for him? Is there anyone suffering so I may relieve his suffering?′ [Ibn Majah]

.

Our notes:
First note
Allah comes down to the lowest heaven, in way that suits His majesty, EVERY NIGHT. Not just 15th night of Sha’ban. The author has misquoted the hadeeth. May Allah forgive him/her.See actual hadeeth in the image below, in shaa Allah.
Evidence: https://islamqa.info/en/answers/291824/the-virtue-of-offering-supplication-in-the-last-third-of-the-night
Second note
Not all scholars have the opinion that these 4 ahadeeth are authentic. Do understand that this is a delicate issue. Do your research. Follow the scholars and teachers that you trust, in shaa Allah.
Third Note
My point of view? I would follow the opinions below, in shaa Allah. See Reminder 2b, Reminder 2c, 2d, 2e, 2f and 2g

Question:

Does Allah Come Down To the First Heaven On the Night of the Fifteenth of Sha’ban?

Similar Question:

Does Allaah come down to the first heaven on the night of the fifteenth of Sha’ban and forgive all the people except two types, namely disbelievers and those engaged in disputes?

Summary of answer:

There is no sahih hadith concerning the virtue of the night of the fifteenth of Sha’ban. With regard to Allah’s descending on the 15th night of Sha’ban, there are hadith which are weak, but the reports that He descends every night are proven and sahih, so the night of the fifteenth of Sha’ban is included in that. Watch this video by Sheikh Assim al hakeem, in shaa Allah…

https://youtu.be/xntmvTDHsAI 15th of  Sha’ban. Sheikh Assim al hakeem. (2 min 20 sec)

Lecture Notes:

  • Some hadeeth are authenticated by scholars. Some are not. Some scholars even call them weak, unauthentic or fabricated.
  • Many scholars believe that 15th of Sha’ban IS a blessed night. But according to some scholars, there are NO authentic ahadeeth regarding special acts of worship that needs to be done during that night.
  • Therefore, it is NOT permissible for a Muslim to offer any type of EXTRA forms worship. Anything that is OUT of your usual daily schedule should be offered. If you have been fasting Mondays and Thursdays, for example, and 15th of Sha’ban falls on the Thursday, you may continue to fast it. But if you are not used to fasting Sunnah fasts, you should NOT be singling 15th of Sha’ban for a day for you to fast. There is no evidence that the Prophet fasted on that day. Thus, you shouldn’t do anything out of the ordinary. You shouldn’t do a special form of worship (on 15th of Sha’ban) out of your usual schedule. Why? Because it is an innovation, ie bid’ah.
  • Another example is Witr prayer. Let’s say a person is used to doing 3 Rak’at of Witr every night. And then on the 15th of Sha’ban, he decides to offer an increased number of Rak’at. This is NOT allowed. Why? Because the Prophet (s.a.w.) did not do that. And therefore it is a Bid’ah (innovation).
  • Same with other forms of worship too. Examples: Reading extra Quran or asking Allah for forgiveness more than usual. These shouldn’t be increased just because it is the 15th of Sha’ban.
  • Allah knows best.

Question:

Is Fasting on the 15th of Shaban Recommended?

Similar Question:

Is it permissible, even after finding out that a hadith is da’if (weak), to follow it, by way of doing righteous deeds? The hadith says: “When it is halfway through Sha’baan, spend that night in prayer and fast on that day.” The fast is observed as a voluntary act of devotion to Allah, as is spending that night in prayer (qiyaam al-layl).

Summary of answer:

What is narrated about praying, fasting and worshipping on the 15th of Sha’ban is fabricated. So it is not permissible to follow such hadiths or to act upon them, whether that is in doing righteous deeds or otherwise. For more, please see the detailed answer.

Title: 4 ways to prepare for Ramadan

Speaker: Sheikh Suleiman Hani

.

  1. sincere intention to prepare what ibaadahs you want to do in Ramadan so that  you could carry out as much Ibaadah as possible, so as to benefit from every second of Ramadan.
  2. make du’aa to Allah, asking Him to allow you to reach and complete Ramadan successfully.
  3. ‘Pay’ back last year’s unfasted days of Ramadan. Practise voluntary fasting if it’s not yet half of Sha’ban.
  4. Recite as much Qur’aan as possible. Start from now. Don’t wait till Ramadan.

“Ramadan is just around the corner so in the next couple of days we will be going over some common mistakes to avoid during Ramadan in sha Allah

⛔ Mistakes to avoid during Ramadan Part 1

  1. Not Making An Intention For Ramadan

Making the intention to fast Ramadan is extremely important and many people fall into the mistake of entering the month without actually making an intention.

Making an intention to fast Ramadan is a priority because the Prophet (ﷺ)) said: “Whoever does not intend to fast before dawn, there is no fast for him.” ( al-Tirmidhi, 730)

The intention can be made either the night before Ramadan starts (before Fajr) or on every night of Ramadan;

However, scholars have said that since intending to observe the month of Ramadan basically implies fasting every day of the month, then it will be sufficient to make only one intention at the beginning unless there is an interruption during the month for any reason (menstruation, traveling, illness). In that case if one is to resume fasting, then he/she must renew their intentions again to fast. This is the more correct view.”

“⛔ Mistakes to avoid during Ramadan Part 2

2. Many people spend more time preparing and thinking about food and their meals than they actually do focusing on the real purpose of Ramadan*. Their whole Ramadan revolves around grocery shopping and what kind of food they will eat that day, what appetizers and desserts should be made, who they should invite over today, and the most popular question “how long until Maghrib?”

The whole point of Ramadan is to leave the Dunya behind and shift our focus into feeding our hearts and souls spiritually and NOT our stomachs physically.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to strive more in worship during Ramadan than he strove in any other time of the year; and he would devote himself more (in the worship of Allah) in the last ten nights of Ramadan than he strove in earlier part of the month. [Muslim].”

Additional notes:

5.021

*Real purpose of Ramadan:

Why do Muslims fast during Ramadan?

Because Allah tells us to do so

Yes, we Muslims fast the month of Ramadan because Allah has commanded us to do so.

Allah says :

“O you who believe! Observing As-Sawm (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (pious).” [al-Baqarah 2:183]

So we worship Allah by doing this act of worship which is beloved to Allah and which He has enjoined upon us.

The believers are quick to obey the commands of Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Allah says:

“The only saying of the faithful believers, when they are called to Allah (His Words, the Quran) and His Messenger, to judge between them, is that they say: ‘We hear and we obey.’ And such are the successful (who will live forever in Paradise).” [al-Nur 24:51]

“It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed into a plain error.” [al-Ahzab 33:36]

.

So that we could achieve Taqwa

To achieve Taqwa is a goal for the month of Ramadan. The people of taqwa are those who do the things that they are commanded and avoid the things which Allah has made prohibitive.

To reach a high level of taqwa, it requires vigilance (Being very careful. Being aware of possible difficulties and dangers), it requires patience and sincerity.

⛔️ Mistakes to avoid during Ramadan Part 3

3. Overeating (during Suhoor and Iftar)

One of the most discouraged of habits practiced every Ramadan by many people is the habit of overeating and filling the stomach to its full. We fill our stomachs during Suhoor to ensure we don’t get hungry during the day, and then stuff ourselves during Iftar as if we are compensating for a week’s loss of food.

This is actually not only defeats the purpose of fasting, but it’s completely against the sunnah of eating in moderation.

“….and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.” (7:31)

The Prophet (ﷺ) say: ‘A human being fills no worse vessel than his stomach. It is sufficient for a human being to eat a few mouthfuls to keep his spine straight. But if he must (fill it), then one third of food, one third for drink and one third for air.’” (Sunan Ibn Majah 3349)

Two opinions:

Opinion 1

⛔ Mistakes to avoid during Ramadan Part 4

4. Fasting but not Praying

One very common misconception among those who do not pray regularly or even at all, especially during Ramadan, is that fasting and prayer are two acts of worship not related to each other. This is wrong.

Accordingly to the majority scholarly view, fasting will not be accepted if one does not pray and this is based on the hadith :

The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ)said: “Whoever does not pray ‘Asr, his good deeds will be annulled.” (Al-Bukhaari 520)

Futhermore, intentionally leaving the prayer constitutes Kufr.

“And the Prophet ()said: “Between a man and shirk and kufr stands his giving up prayer.” ( Muslim, 82.)

And he (ﷺ) said: “The covenant that separates us from them is prayer; whoever gives up prayer is a kaafir.”

 (al-Tirmidhi, 2621)

” This is also the view of most of the Sahaabah, if not their consensus. ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Shaqeeq (may Allaah have mercy on him), who was one of the well-known Taabi’een, said: The companions of the Prophet () did not think that omitting any action made a person a kaafir, except for prayer. Based on this, if a person fasts but he does not pray, then his fast is rejected and not accepted, and it will not avail him anything before Allaah on the Day of Resurrection. We say to him: Pray then fast, because if you fast but do not pray, then your fast will be rejected, because acts of worship are not accepted from a kaafir. ” Source: Islamqa

⛔ Mistakes to avoid during Ramadan Part 5

5. Spending the majority of the day in the Kitchen

This advice goes out especially for the womenfolk of the household.

Please try to manage and limit your cooking time in the kitchen during Ramadan as much as possible. Every second during Ramadan counts. Remember, every act of worship is rewarded multiple times over so don’t spend all your time invested in the kitchen while missing out on so much reward because you’re too exhausted or lazy to do anything at the end of the day.

Moreover, a message to the husbands and males of the household as well — please have some mercy and empathy towards your wives. Don’t pressure and expect them to cook up a hundred different types of food or meals that are time consuming during this blessed month because you want your pakoras, biryani, stuffed duck or mahshi for Iftar. You need to take into consideration her precious time and all the acts of worship she’s missing out on.

The whole purpose of Ramadan is to fill our souls with Eman (and Taqwa), not our stomachs with food. A simple meal will be sufficient and allow you to concentrate in your acts of worship.

⛔ Mistakes to avoid during Ramadan Part 6

6. Wasting Time & Sleeping all day

Sleeping the whole day or wasting time doing unproductive things completely defeats the whole purpose of Ramadan. This is one of the main reasons why many would leave Ramadan without benefiting from this blessed month or gaining any spiritual progress.

Every second of Ramadan is valuable so don’t lose this  opportunity that can possibly be your last.

Imagine just how inconceivable it would be if one is taken to the bank and is given the whole day to grab as much money as he is able to and instead decides to spend most of that day sleeping or focusing on something else. Crazy, right?

The Prophet () said: “There are two blessings which many people do not make the most of and thus lose out: good health and free time.” ( al-Bukhaari, 6412).

⛔ Mistakes to avoid during Ramadan Part 7

7. Indulging in Entertainment (watching TV series & movies)

One of the worst traps Muslims fall into every Ramadan is watching films and series that have been made to screen exclusively during the month of Ramadan.

This is literally one of the easiest ways to ruin your Ramadan. Yes, Shaitan is locked up during Ramadan, but that still will not prevent him from working in advance in order to hype Muslims up for these series and films so that when they enter this blessed month, he would have already caused them to not only gain sin during this the month of forgiveness, but to also lose out on so much rewards.

Watching these sorts of entertainment is already haram outside of Ramadan due to the non-Islamic contents included, so to do it during a month where we are supposed to be in the height of spirituality and closeness to Allah is an extreme and utter loss.

The Prophet () said, “May he be humiliated, that person who Ramadaan comes and his sins are not forgiven” (al-Tirmidhi, 35)

⛔ Mistakes to avoid during Ramadan Part 8

8. Not giving up Evil in Action or Speech

Ramadan is all about self-control, not only in refraining from eating or drinking, but also in controlling our words and actions.

Fasting comes in a full package and we must be very careful with the mistake of thinking that Ramadan is only about avoiding food.

The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever does not give up false speech and acting upon it, and ignorance, Allaah has no need of him giving up his food and drink.” (Al-Bukhaari 1903)

The phrase “false speech” includes lying, backbiting, gossiping, using foul language, spreading slander and every kind of speech that is haraam.

The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said: “Fasting is a shield, so let [the fasting person] not utter any obscene or ignorant speech, and if someone tries to fight him or insults him, let him say: ‘I am fasting,’ twice.” ( al-Bukhaari 1894)

⛔ Mistakes to avoid during Ramadan Part 9

9. Skipping Suhoor or eating it too early

Not only is eating Suhoor a Sunnah, but it is a source of blessing as well.

The Prophet ()  said: “Eat sohoor(pre-dawn meal) , for in sohoor there is blessing.” (al-Bukhaari, 1923)

The Prophet ()  said: “Whoever wants to fast, let him eat something for suhoor.” ( Ahmad, 14533)

The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said: “Suhoor is a blessed meal, so do not omit it, even if one of you only takes a sip of water, for Allaah and His angels send blessings on those who eat suhoor.” ( Ahmad, 11003)

Delaying Suhoor just before Fajr

Zayd ibn Thaabit (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: “We ate suhoor with the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ), then he got up to pray.” I said: “How much time was there between the adhaan and suhoor?” He said: “The time it takes to recite fifty verses.” (al-Bukhaari, 1921)

⛔ Mistakes to avoid during Ramadan Part 10

10. Forgetting to Supplicate during breaking of Fast

As the Maghrib approaches, many of us are just so focused on  preparing our meals and getting ready to gorge on the food once the adhan begins that we actually forget to supplicate when breaking the fast and lose out on the opportunity to supplicate to Allah and have of our duas answered.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Three prayers are not rejected: the prayer of a father, the prayer of a fasting person, and the prayer of a traveler) al-Bayhaqi, 3/3345

Give yourself just one minute of your time alone during the breakingbof your fast and make as much duas as you can. Also encourage your family to dedicate this time to dua as well.

The gates of Heaven are opened. The doors of Hell are closed. All your sins will be forgiven. Good deeds will be worth way more than any other day of the year.

Those who don’t take advantage of this blessed month are like those who are offered free cash but refuse to accept it.

Truly, a great loss!

Do not be from those who will be humiliated this Ramadan.

May Allah accept our good deeds and may we reach Ramadan and observe it as best as we can.”

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

Four of the Twelve Hijri Months are Sacred:

Rajab, DhĹŤ al-Qa’dah, Dhu al-Ḥijjah and MuḼarram.

Ramadaan has not fallen in this category, but nevertheless, we all now know from the last few POSTs about the Virtue of this Blessed Month.

❄ Today, let’s point out some Mistakes during this Month that many people do so that we can rectify ourselves, in sha Allaah :

1️⃣ The big Mistake people do is not having Proper Intention (to please Allaah only), as well as, doing Deeds to show Off and not controlling the Tongue, Eye and Temper while Fasting.

2️⃣ Performing Voluntary Deeds, but Neglecting Obligatory Actions or Fard.

3️⃣ Not abstaining from Haram Acts like back-biting, slandering, lieing, cheating etc.

4️⃣ Not having knowledge about various Fiqh issues about Siam and Qiam.
Hence, many Sunnah remains unpractised and Innovations are flourishing like a Plague and Shaitan is laughing❗

📚 CLICK to know about many Sunan that gets neglected in Ramadaan:
https://abdurrahman.org/2013/05/10/beautiful-talk-sunnahs-neglected-in-ramadaan-imaam-muhammad-naasir-ud-deen-al-albaanee-videoar-en-subtitles/

5️⃣ Spending Idle time watching TV and roaming around to Markets (seen in past), rather than reading Qur’an, doing Dhikr, Du’a and so on.

6️⃣ Praying Taraweeh but missing Isha Salah. Then Fasting just 1st and 27th and Last Day; rather than whole Month.

7️⃣ Our generous Home-Makers (Mother, Wife, Daughter and Sisters) spend most of their time in Kitchen, which is a Shame.
Much more than rest of the year, to fill up the Table, for their Family Members❗

But actually Ramadaan is the time, when we are to minimise our Physical or Worldly Apetite/Desire and then increase our Spiritual Connections/Actions, by doing more Worships and Good Deeds.

See, how Shaitan bluffed us by filling our stomach till the Toncil area in Iftaar time and then many of us become Half-Sleep during Taraweeh (if we pray Taraweeh at all❗).

🆘️ DEAR MOTHERS AND SISTERS,

Tell your Husband, Children and others to remain Happy and Satisfied with few Dates and Fruits and Simple Dishes, so that you can spend more time remembering Allaah worshipping HIM.

Ramadaan suppose to Train us to Restraint Overeating. Because, Gluttony is one of the greatest sins that lead to doom and it causes many diseases and sicknesses, both spiritual and physical, because it leads to sexual desire, then the desire for status and wealth in order to fulfil the first two desires. Then that generates spiritual diseases such as showing off, destructive envy (hasad), boastfulness and arrogance because of being focused on worldly matters. In most cases that leads to evil and immorality, all of it because of this desire. The Arabs of old said: The stomach is the home of disease and restraint is the basis of the remedy.

Allaah says:
“and eat and drink but waste not by extravagance, certainly He (Allaah) likes not Al‑Musrifoon (those who waste by extravagance)”
📚 Qur’an – 7:31

The Sunnah encourages moderation in eating, and strongly criticizes extravagance.

The Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said:
The son of Adam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat a few mouthfuls, to keep him going. If he must do that (fill his stomach), then let him fill one third with food, one third with drink and one third with air.”
📚 Tirmidhi

It was narrated that Naafi’ (RA) said:
Ibn ‘Umar used not to eat until a poor man was brought to eat with him. I brought a man in to eat with him and he ate a great deal. He said: O Naafi’, do not let this man enter upon me, for I heard the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) say: “The kaafir eats in seven intestines.”
📚 Bukhaari and Muslim

So, let’s 🛏 Wake up and Change our Eating Habit from this Ramadaan, in sha Allaah (telling myself first).

8️⃣ The Last 10 Days are the Cream of Ramadaan, when Muslims are to spend more time at Night, doing Eebadah and Dhikr and Du’a, in the Quest to find ‘Laylatul Qadr Night’, for Heavy Gain.

But, see how Shaitan has Corrupted and Programmed our Desire❗

This year it will be different as we are being Locked Down but in Past, it has been observed that we actually spend most of our time of this last part of the Month, in Shopping Centers, doing excessive EID SHOPPING, to Please family members.

What about Pleasing the LORD of the Worlds❓

And more SHOPPING means indulging in to more FITNAH and unwanted physical contacts between non-mahram Men and Women.

Yes, who ever went to over-crowded Shopping Centers in many Muslim populated countries, probably noticed how Women are regularly getting harassed in various ways by Fasik Men❗

🆘️ Dear Brothers,

Look after your House-Holds, as you are the Leaders of your Family. Keep your ‘Precious PEARL’ inside it’s SHELL, otherwise your ‘PEARL’ may End-Up either in somebody else’s RING or being scratched and pinched by EVILDOERS❗

It is you who suppose to do much of the shopping, not your Ladies, in this Age of Fitnah! … Be a Man…

🍁 These are only few of the many Mistakes…

〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
▪️ ‘REVIVE SUNNAH,
▫️ REVIVE ISLAM.
▪️ CHANGE YOURSELF,
▫️ CHANGE OTHERS.’

‘Indeed, Allaah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.’
📚 Qur’an – 13:11 (part of the ayah)
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️

💠 To be Continued…in sha Allaah.

“Before Ramadan” Reminder 10

Preparing for an Amazing Ramadhaan🌷

by Asma Bint Shameem

Imagine.
Someone really, really important is coming to visit you.

Surely, you would cook, clean, shop, prepare and plan everything for them, well ahead of time.

You would make sure they are comfortable and well taken care of.

You would ascertain that everything is perfectly ready and adequately in place before they arrive.

Now imagine someone coming to visit you that is even more important than that….more precious, more valuable, more honorable.

The month that brings the fragrance of Jannah and the sweetness of Imaan….

the tears of Taubah and the forgiveness of your Lord….

And it’s bringing with it a night that is equivalent in worship and reward, to more than a thousand months.

Wouldn’t you want to prepare for that?

So what to do?

🌷1. Mental Preparation

Prepare yourself mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually for this great month.

Be really EXCITED for this upcoming month and be absolutely determined to do your utmost BEST and exert yourself for this magnificent month of Forgiveness and Mercy from your Lord.

RACE with one another and compete with each other for it!

After all, this is a time when the gates of Jannah are all open. W..I..D..E open…
And all the gates of Jahannum are closed.

Yes, Alhamdulillaah CLOSED.

🌷2. Purify your intention

The next thing to do is to purify your niyyah from NOW.

You are going to fast because it is the ORDER of Allaah and NOT because it is culture or your family does so, or even because you want to lose weight.

Fasting is a deed absolutely loved by Allaah and you want to PLEASE Him.

🌷3. The Qur’aan and You

Have full intention from now, to read as much of the Qur’aan as you can.

LOVE the Qur’aan.
Build a close relationship with it. Realize that these are the Words of your Lord….Words that will take you to Jannah, your Ultimate Goal.

Don’t just read it with your eyes.
Read it with your HEART.

Let it sink into your very SOUL.
Savor the joy and cherish the delight in reading the Book of Allaah.
Taste the sweetness of Imaan.

Don’t be in a rush to quickly finish the reading.
Rather, take your time to ponder over the words and understand the meanings.

Don’t think…”when am I going to finish this Surah?

Rather ask….when am I going to implement this in my life?”

Remember, nothing is sweeter and more pleasurable than the ayaat of the Qur’aan that you can understand.

🌷4. Lots of Sujood

Prepare yourself to do plenty of sujood….long, drawn out sujood, in Taraweeh and Tahajjud.
Feel close to your Rabb when you do that sajdah.

Realize that this is most HONORABLE position for you…placing the thing you value most, your head, on the ground, humbled before your Creator.
You are the slave and He is the Ultimate Master.

You are the ‘abd and He is your Owner.

🌷5. Dua, Dua and more Dua

Resolve from today, to make a LOT of dua.
Make a dua list.
Prepare it from now.

And when you sit down to break your fast, or when you stand in front of your Creator in Salaah, in Taraaweeh or in the middle of the night, or any time during the night or day, spread out those hands and ask al-Kareem, the Most Generous, the One Who gives to one and to all.

Make sincere, heartfelt dua whenever and wherever you can.
And don’t forget to be thankful to the One Who gave you everything.

🌷6. True repentance

Be ready from now to do abundant istighfaar, lots and lots of it.
Do it every single day.

In the darkness of the night, when the whole world is asleep.

Ar-Rahmaan is calling. Wouldn’t you want to respond??

Bend your head with shame, and cry….
Cry like you’ve never cried before….
Ask for His forgiveness.
Make firm resolve never, ever, to go back to your sins…never, ever to do those bad deeds again.

🌷7. Determination to change for the better

Most importantly, have FIRM DETERMINATION from this moment on, to continue all the good deeds and habits that you will develop during Ramadhaan to continue even after Ramadhaan is over.

Remember, you are not a good Muslim just during a special month of the year. Rather you are a Muslim THROUGHOUT the three hundred and sixty five days.

🌷Other tips:

  1. Make a schedule or time-table for all your activities during Ramadhaan and write it down.
Allocate specific times for reading Qur’aan, waking up for tahajjud, cooking, sleeping, etc and stick to it.
  2. Get to know the rules of fasting from NOW, so that your fasting can be closest to the Sunnah and thus be more beloved and acceptable to Allaah.
  3. CLARIFY any doubts that you may have and don’t be afraid to ask a scholar.
  4. CLEANSE your heart of any anger, hatred, grudges, etc from now.
    And forgive EVERYONE.
  5. FINISH up on your Ramadhaan and Eid preparation, cooking, shopping, etc. from NOW so that you can free up all the time during Ramadhaan for Ibaadah.
  6. If you pay Zakaah during Ramadhaan, get it all calculated and worked out BEFORE the month starts.
  7. DO NOT spend all day in the kitchen.
Remember this is a month of FASTING, not FEASTING. Our focus is not “food”. It’s ibaadah.

🌷Conclusion

To conclude, think positive and have firm resolve.
Give it all you got.
Set your goals at the highest.
Don’t settle for anything less than JANNAH!

Strive with all your effort to do your best so that this will be an amazing, awe-inspiring, heart-stopping experience of a lifetime….
Your best Ramadhaan EVER!

And Allaah knows best.

Ramadan Reminder 2

2.01

About a week into Ramadan and this is a good time to reflect and review how we are doing?

Are you feeling burnt out or not being as productive as you had planned?

See how you are doing compared to your targets and make the changes to get yourself back on track.

We should also try to give up bad habits during Ramadan to become a better Muslim. It is during the month of Ramadan that Allah chains the devils and aids us in controlling our souls. It is therefore during this time that we can concentrate on our deeds for the pleasure of Allah.

Fasting is there to help teach Muslims

  • Self-discipline
  • Self-restraint
  • Generosity

It also reminds us of the suffering of the poor, who may rarely get to eat well.

(Source: Alkauthar Institute email, 9/4/2022)

.

2.02

SFMK additions

Fasting is there to help teach Muslims

  • Self-discipline – Ramadan is a time when Muslims discipline themselves even more in doing more Ibaadah (worship) for the sake of Allah SWT. More Quran-reading, more Quran-contemplation, more Sunnah prayers (Taraweeh, etc), more adhkar (increase in the amount of dhikr that we do), more studying (listening to more Islamic talks) and so on.
  • Self-restraint – In Ramadan, we are controlling ourselves from eating, drinking, sexual activities. But we also try to stop ourselves (even more than in the other months) from lying, cheating, reducing if not cutting ourselves off from doing other haram or makrooh things.
  • Generosity – Muslims around the world become more generous and charitable in Ramadan, knowing that Allah multiplies our rewards, up to 10, 100 or 700 times or more for our good deeds. A few Muslims even hold back in the other months just so that they could donate more in Ramadan.
  • Humility – Fasting also reminds us of the suffering of the poor, who may rarely get to eat well.
  • Regret and repentance – Ramadan is a month when many Muslims seek Allah’s forgiveness from the major sins.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (radi Allahu anhu) that the Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam), “Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven. And whoever stays up and prays on Laylat al-Qadr out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” He also related that the Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “Whoever prays at night in Ramadaan out of faith and the hope of reward, all his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Agreed upon).

In the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah (radi Allahu anhu), there is evidence that each of these three actions is a cause for forgiveness of previous sins; fasting the month of Ramadan, praying in it’s nights, and praying in the night of Qadr. Praying in the night of Qadr is a cause of forgiveness alone for whoever is able to catch it, regardless of whether it is in the beginning of the last ten days, middle or in the end and regardless of whether the person feels that it is the night of al-Qadr or not. The forgiveness promised in this night is specific for it, and is not conditioned on completion of the month. As for the forgiveness promised for those who fast Ramadan and pray in its nights, it is conditioned on the completion of the entire month. So once the month is completed, only then is the believer counted among those who fasted the month and prayed it’s nights, thus being rewarded with forgiveness of previous sins. When those who fast complete their fasting in the month of Ramadan and praying in it’s nights, then they have completed what was upon them of deeds. What remains is what is for them of reward; being forgiven.

🌺Preparing for Ramadan in Sha’ban🌺

(Notes from a lecture by Sh. Umm Jamaal ud-Din)

1️⃣ Purify your heart.

-Do sincere tawbah. Reflect
over your past. Repent. Turn back to Allah with sincerity.
-Increase in Istighfar
-Revive your heart with Thikr.
-Give sadaqah as much as you can as it wipes out sins.
-Let go of bad feelings towards others, because it only stops you from getting close to Allah. Ask Allah to free your heart from bad feelings. Try overcoming bad feelings by making Dua for that person.
-If you’ve wronged anyone make amends for that with them.

2️⃣ Muhasabah. Call yourself to account before you are called to account.

-Are we improving and coming closer to Allah?
-What sins or bad habits do you want to focus on erasing from your life? Backbiting? Wasting time? Missing prayers? Start trying to change from now.

3️⃣Make a plan.

What goals do you want to set for this coming Ramadan?
What good habits can we adopt in our life to improve ourselves?
-Take small steps towards Allah: eg, start your day upon shukr by praying 2 rakahs of salat ad-Duha, remember Allah in the mornings and evenings, practice having good akhlaq with everyone around you…

🌹Remember : the highest levels of reward in Ramadan are for those done with Ihsan. 🌹

4️⃣Increase in good deeds from now.

-Increase in reading Quran.
-Rawaatib (12 extra Sunnah raka’at) – house in jannah.
-Qiyam al Layl.

Ibn Rajab said Shaban is like an introduction to Ramadan. So fast and recite Quran in this month in order to prepare your soul, so that its disciplined upon obedience. Because if you’re not used to extra worship, it will be heavy on you. So practice from now to make it easy.

🌹Remember: Those people who are able to recite Quran and mention Allah before dying, it’s because their hearts were used to it.🌹

5️⃣Make yourself mentally prepared for Ramadan.

-Spring clean your house.
-Complete your assignments and appointments before Ramadan.
-Stay in the company of those who motivate you towards striving to do your best.
-Make up missed fasts.
– Memorize some Quran to recite in salah.
-Make a personal daily plan for how you’re going to spend your day. Where will you pray taraweeh? When will you recite Quran?

Make du’a to Allah عز وجل to give us Tawfeeq, because in reality we can not rely on our efforts and plans and Ramadan journals.

🌹No one will be successful without Allah’s Help🌹

‎اللهم أعني على ذكعك و شكعك وحسن ؚبادتك

Finally: Only Allah knows how many more Ramadans we have left. How many people have already passed away? How many people are sick and can’t fast this year? Don’t take this blessing for granted.

🌹Ask Allah to help you safely live to see Ramadan.🌹

Ibn Al-Jawzee said: “If it was said to those in their graves “Wish”, they would wish to come back to fast one more day in Ramadan.”

‎اللهم بلغنا رمضان وبارك لنا فيه🤲🏽

Do you know that Allah subhana wa ta’ala offers us a lifetime pass protection from the Hellfire in Ramadan?

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “At every breaking of the fast (i.e. iftar), Allah has people whom He frees (from the Fire), and that happens every night.” [Ibn Majah 1643]

Imagine this like we’re receiving a life-time membership that we will never enter the Hellfire. Period!

So when there is a selection of people whom Allah chooses, then that means we have to work hard so that we are selected as well.

We really have to work extra hard in Ramadan. Ramadan is not a month for vacation, not a month for tasks and activities that can be postponed to after Ramadan. So please do not make statements such as ‘My schedule in Ramadan is like anytime before Ramadan.’ Know that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was able to upgrade further his ibadah in Ramadan. This is the attitude of the believers in Ramadan, so strive to make this month even better than the months before.

May Allah subhana wa ta’ala select us among those whom He chooses to be saved from the Hellfire, ameen.
