Salawat

What is Salaawat/ Salawat?

  • It is the plural of Salaah.
  • Salaah means to call out, to ask, to invoke. Salaah means connection** too.
  • (In brief*) When we send Salaawat and Salaam upon Prophet Muhammad, we are asking Allah to:
    • give peace to Prophet Muhammad
    • give blessings to Prophet Muhammad
    • mention Prophet Muhammad  to the angels
    • have mercy on Prophet Muhammad
    • praise Prophet Muhammad
    • raise Prophet Muhammad’s   ranks
    • forgive Prophet Muhammad
    • favour Prophet Muhammad

  • (In brief**) Why should we send Salaawat and Salaam upon the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)?
    1. Commandment of Allah in the Quran, therefore it is an act of worship
    2. Allah will forgive us TEN of our sins
    3. Allah will mention us, so will Jibreel (a.s.)
    4. Allah will answer our duáas
    5. Allah will satisfy some of our needs
    6. Allah will send blessings to us TEN times
    7. Allah will raise us TEN degrees in status (ranks)
    8. The Prophet (s.a.w.) will receive and return your greetings (some angels who go around the world will tell him about it, i.e. convey our salaam to him!)
    9. Salaawat will draw us closer to the Prophet (s.a.w.)
