Khateeb’s Guide

How should a Khateeb conduct the Friday Salaah?

The requirements of the Jumu’ah prayer is a bit complex, as there are differences
of opinions among the different schools of thought, so the following is the “safest” (including some
Sunnahs and Fards), in shaa Allah.

NOTE: Khutbah can be made primarily in a language that is mostly understood by the congregation. Therefore, it can be delivered mainly in the English, Turkish, Mandarin, Tamil, Hindi, Malay, Urdu, German, French languages, etc. Only a small part of the Khutbah can be delivered in Arabic. Many scholars, if not all, also agree that the minimum requirements of the Khutbah must be in Arabic. Nonetheless, it is best if the Khateeb can give a Khutbah in a language that many if not most of the congregation can understand. But if a Khateeb is unable to speak in a language other than Arabic, or if the congregation is mostly people who can speak Arabic, he can deliver the Khutbah in Arabic only.

Dear Khateeb, the following is just a sample or style of Khutbah that is quite “safe” to follow, in shaa Allah.

End KHUTBAH PART ONE with…

– Pause, sit down and make a silent du’aa (It is recommended for you to perhaps du’aa for forgiveness at this moment). Then, after some seconds, stand again to resume your Khutbah Part Two.

Begin it with…

LAST PART:

The following last part’s translation is just for your personal reference only, unless you want to say it BEFORE the Arabic part (above). It is recommended that you end your khutbah with the Arabic part, you see. (Why? When the congregation usually hears “Wa aqimiS-Salaah,” they will all start standing up!)

.

Translation of the LAST part:

.

EVERYONE stands up and establishes the prayer.
