Think First

operating roomDoctor Haleem entered the hospital in hurry after being called in for an urgent surgery. He answered the call as soon as possible, changed his clothes and went directly to the surgery block.  He found the boy’s father pacing in the hall waiting for the doctor.

.

Upon realising that Dr Haleem was the surgeon, the father yelled bitterly at him, “Why did you take all this time to come? Don’t you know that my son’s life is in danger? Don’t you have any sense of responsibility?”

.

shake handsThe doctor smiled, shook the father’s hand swiftly and said, “I am sorry, Mr Yahya. I wasn’t in the hospital and I came as fast as I could after receiving the call and now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can do my work with ease, Insha’Allah.”

.

“Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would you calm down? If your own son dies while waiting for doctor, then what will you do??” said the dad angrily.

.

The doctor smiled again while walking away speedily. He shouted through the hallway, “We will do our best with Allah’s help and you should also du’a for your son’s healthy life, yeah?”

.

angry man“Oh, it sure is easy for you to say that. Giving advice is easier than juggling it with your own two hands. You don’t know how it feels to be in my position!” murmured the dad, looking at the disappearing doctor with hateful eyes.

.

The surgery took some hours after which the surgeon emerged out of the Operating Room happy, “Thank Allah! Alhamdulillah! Your son has been saved, Mr Yahya!” And without waiting for the father’s reply he hurried off running and saying, “If you have any questions, do ask the nurse. Thanks.”

.

“Why is Dr Haleem so arrogant? Couldn’t he wait a few minutes so that I could ask him more about the state of my son?” commented the father to the nurse minutes after the doctor had left.

.

tear on cheekThe nurse answered, tears coming down her cheeks, “His daughter, Ameena, died yesterday in a road accident. He was at the mosque arranging his daughter’s final bath and burial plot when we called him for your son’s surgery.  And now that he has saved your son’s life, he left running to finish Ameena’s burial.”

.

“The  believing  men  and  believing  women  are  allies  of  one  another.  They  enjoin  what  is right  and  forbid  what  is  wrong  and  establish  prayer  and  give  zakah  and  obey Allah and  His  Messenger.  Those  – Allah will  have  mercy  upon  them.  Indeed, Allah is  Exalted in  Might  and  Wise.”

(Quran, 9:71)
