The Leaky Pot

cracked pot story There was an old Chinese woman had two large pots which she used to carry water. Each day, she would hang them both on the ends of a pole that she carried across the back of her neck.

.

One of the pots had a crack in it while the other was perfect. The good pot could always carry a full portion of water.

.

Every day, at the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot only managed to be half full.

.

For two whole years this went on, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water.

.

The perfect pot was very proud of its accomplishments, ridiculing the other pot every chance he could.

.

cracked pot storyThe poor cracked pot became more and more crestfallen due to its imperfection. It was always feeling miserable as it could only do half of what it had been made to do. It felt like a bitter failure.

.

One day, the leaky pot decided to speak to the woman when they were at the stream.

.

“I am ashamed of myself. Because of this crack at my side, I have caused water to emit bit by bit during our journey home.”

.

The old woman smiled at the leaky pot and said, “Didn’t you ever notice that there are flowers on your side of the path when we are going home, but none on the good pot’s side?”

.

.

“And for awhile now, I have been picking some of these beautiful flowers to decorate my humble abode.

Without your contribution, my little house would not have been smelling fragrant and looking good.”

.

Each of us has flaws.

We may all be cracked pots.

But with Allah’s help, we can make the best of each situation.

We should aim to work together using all our strengths and weaknesses combined.

Amazing beauty will result, insha’Allah!
